Last night at the PPS Board meeting there was a presentation on rebuilding Kellogg Middle School with a designed enrollment capacity of 675 students. There was no Board discussion of this figure, so where it came from is a mystery. Apparently, PPS staff missed my August, 2016, blog post “Should a new Kellogg Middle school be as big as West Sylvan” (here). In 2015-16, West Sylvan had 966 students.
Further, if one looks at the six remaining K-8’s in SE Portland, there are currently 835 students in the middle school grades. Kellogg at 675 will not be able to hold them all. What is the plan for the other students?
Let us rebuild a new Kellogg for 900 students!
