China plans wide-range government inspections and other steps to prevent more product recalls, the Chinese ambassador to the United States said in an interview today in Portland with The Oregonian.
Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong, in Oregon until Wednesday, said quality-control inspectors would increase spot checks of export shipments, beginning Sept. 1. "Not just for lead" paint, Zhou said. "For everything."
Zhou emphasized that Chinese officials are concerned about product-safety issues and for the safety of consumers. He noted that the Chinese government has created a high-level commission and instituted new regulations....(more)
