The Portland Public Schools Board meets tomorrow evening,
12/17/12. On the Board’s agenda (here) is Resolution No. 4696 which, among
other things, authorizes an extension of a contract with Albina Head Start,
Inc., for one year to provide Early Head Start services for 28 children in the Madison and Roosevelt
High School areas for the
sum of an additional $200,000. That’s a per pupil per year cost of $7,142.86. I
do not know if that is for a calendar or school year, or much else about the
contract.
Some cost comparisons.
On the same Board meeting agenda is proposal for renewal of
the Portland Village Public
Charter School’s
charter. Within the Board materials are budget projections (again, here). Those
projections show the State School Fund allocation per student to be about $5,866
with $4,693 (80%) going to PVCS and $1,173 (20%) going to PPS for their administrative
and oversight services. So PVSC is expected to provide educational services to
its students for $4,693 per student per school year.
PVSC is located in the Jefferson cluster. Looking to Oregon Department of Education data for 2011-12 from the report for “Operating Cost per Student by School by Fund” (here), one sees per pupil costs per year of:
School General Fund Special Revenue Fund Total
Beach $ 9,505 $2,935 $12,439
Boise-Eliot $10,280 $3,324 $13,603
