The New York Times has a long, front page article about the
Mexican drug war “In Drug War, Mexico Fights Cartel and Itself” (here,
3/30/09). It is the US demand for drugs, and the money we pay for them, that
supports the drug cartels. It’s time we legalize drugs (regulated and tax, yes)
to diminish that flow of funds to the cartels before Mexico becomes a failed
state. We could start by legalizing marijuana, which, according to the article,
“is considered the top revenue generator for Mexican drug cartels.”
How else can Mexico get the cartels under control? Note:
Hey, Dave.
Good argument, good points. With the amount of money involved in the drug trade, there is no way that this ridiculous "War on Drugs" can ever be won.
Drug legalization, however, is not a political reality. At least, not in present day America.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Hope to hear from you again.
