Portland Public Schools proper has failed to develop a French immersion program. Now they have an opportunity to have a French immersion charter school. They should jump at the opportunity. The Board of the proposed Le Monde Charter School was before the full Portland Public Schools Board last night for review. The PPS Board will vote on Thursday whether or not to sponsor Le Monde.

Portland needs a public French immersion program. This group appears to have a solid, knowledgeable and committed board of directors.
PPS should approve their application, sponsor them, and give them every assistance possible, including low cost rental space in an unused PPS school.
Further note: these Board members and their supporters are my heroes. They are the ones pushing, against substantial obstacles, to make our educational system more relevant to the 21st century.
