From a Financial Times article and graphic, national security blogger Tom Barnett has revised his top seven countries ranked by the size of their estimated natural gas reserves (here):
- China 1,275 tcf
- Argentina 774
- Mexico 681
- South Africa 485
- US 482
- Australia 396
- Canada 388
“tcf” stands for trillion cubic feet.
Note that China leads all other countries by a substantial margin.
Note further that the combined total estimated national gas reserves of Mexico (681), US (482) and Canada (388) is 1,551 tcf. So North American estimated reserves exceed China’s.
